Descripción
We present a Ordinary Differential Equations system that combines
a model of a mosquito population on which the Sterile Insect Technique (SIT) is applied, with a classical SIR (Susceptible, Infected, Recovered) model. The $R_0$ epidemiological coefficient is calculated, showing that the SIT is capable not just of reducing the mosquito population, but can also control mosquito-transmitted epidemics. Numerical simulations are performed to support these results.
