The central purpose of the new role of Batteries Network Project Manager at the UCL’s Electrochemical Innovation Lab (EIL) is to maintain and build relationships between the Lab and potential partners in industry, government and academia.
In order to build the research relationships, the Network Project Manager needs to work with UK government agencies, as well as developing a network of relationships with academics in other institutions in the UK and beyond. By organising workshops to bring together official, industry and academic actors, the Network Project Manager seeks to enable them to gain a greater understanding of each other’s objectives, and awareness of their activities, which in turn creates possibilities for identifying synergies for collaboration.
The support of the UK government has been obtained, with funding from the UK Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC). The results of the stronger relationships have been demonstrated in joint project applications for funding and sponsorships for PhD candidates’ research.
This experience to date highlights the Network Project Manager’s role in identifying and developing new possibilities. In each context, including the case of potential UCL-UH partnerships, we must work with potential partners to gain understandig the appropriate organisational structures and financial resources required.
