In the last time several group focus their research in the synthesis and application of iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs). Magnetite or maghemite result an attracting in the research for drug delivery, magnetic separation of biomolecules such as DNA, uses them as negative or positive contrast agents, as catalyst, for treatment of cancer disease, etc. Different synthetic methods of IONPs were development such as thermal decomposition, coprecipitation, and others. The increase interest of IONPs could be do taking in account the scalable preparation, magnetic properties and good biocompatibility. The control of distribution size and shape in order to control in IONPs stability is one of the most important factors for IONPs applications. The surface functionalization plays an important role in the final use of IONPs. Bioinorganic Laboratory employed different strategies for surface modification of iron oxide nanoparticles. The modified IONPs were characterized by TEM, XRD, FT-IR, VSM and XPS. In all synthetized nanoparticles the valence band assigned to νFeO were observe by FT-IR. The stability in aqueous suspension and the tendency to aggregation in some cases were analyzed by DLS and zeta potential.
