Descripción

The World Data System is one of the two bodies from the "International Science Council", related to "Open Data", the other being "CoData".
When the IFMBE's eHealth Working Group stared organizing "medical data challenge" competitions for young researchers to extract meaningful results out of real biomedical data, the collection of adequate datasets was an organizational challenge on its own and recurring each tie the competition was held, due to lacking of publicly available usable biomedical datasets such as "respiratory sound recordings" or "ECG recordings".
Organizations such as WDS, CoData and RDA make continuous efforts on all aspects of Open Data. Next to the academic appreciation of publications, researchers should obtain academic rewards for also making their well documented datasets publicly available and usable for further research or for exercises such as IFMBE's "medical data challenges".
We see that large institutions such as Geological Societies, NASA, WHO (at least for aggregate data) and others make their datasets available publicly and continuing efforts of CoData towards unification of the physical units of measurement contribute to our goals.
