ZnO nanoparticles were obtained by three aqueous synthesis methods. As reference a named standard method with mechanical stirring was used. In a second method polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) was added to the precursor dissolution. The third method was as that standard but using strong stirring. As results it was found that the method with PVA gave the smallest grain size and reduces the strain. That was associated to the surfactant effect of PVA during the grain formation. The strong-stirring method gave the lowest strain, but the biggest grain sizes. That finding was associated to the energy that the strong stirring transmits during the grain formation. This work allows selecting and studying various synthesis methods to obtain and modify ZnO nanoparticles according to the characteristics required for some of their multiple applications.
